Kenshiro Plans Fight Against Garcia and Will Appeal to IBF to Mandate the Champion to Fight

Kenshiro Teraji / The Ring Magazine

Former two-weight world champion Kenshiro Teraji plans to fight the IBF flyweight champion Wilibaldo Garcia. To achieve this, he intends to appeal to the IBF with a request to order a mandatory bout.

They were already supposed to meet—on December 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The confrontation did not take place after Garcia fell ill following the weigh-in. He was hospitalized just before the fight.

"We are asking the IBF to mandate Garcia to conduct the fight. We only have the fight with Garcia in mind. We are not considering any other options for Kenshiro," said the head of Misako Boxing Gym, Takashi Misako.

The three other belts in this category are held by Jesse Rodriguez.
