Kanamu Sakama has committed suicide

On Monday, March 18th, Japanese light flyweight boxer Kanamu Sakama (9-0, 8 KOs) was scheduled to compete for the Japanese youth championship against Hugo Oki. However, the fight was canceled because Kanamu was unable to make the weight limit for his category.

According to insider Joe Kozumi, Sakama committed suicide that same day. The 20-year-old boxer was in a despondent state due to his inability to prepare for the fight and being overweight.

A message from his father appeared on Sakama's Instagram page:

"I've been lost in many things, but if there are people who supported me, I would be grateful if you came to me, although I won't be able to entertain you. I am sincerely grateful that so many people loved me."

Kanamu Sakama started his professional career in 2021 and won all 9 of his fights, 8 of them by knockout.
