In an interview with Sky Sports, IBO lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) commented on Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko's (17-3, 11 KOs) loss against WBC super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs).
"Haney vs. Lomachenko? Very close fight. I think Devin won the last round, and that might have cost Lomachenko the victory in the fight, but anyway, it was a great fight. Again, many believe Lomachenko won.
In some eyes, Lomachenko could have been the undisputed champion now. Maybe yes, maybe no. It gives me a chance to go out and get back on top, where people say, 'Hey, this guy just beat Lomachenko, who came out after such a close fight with Devin Haney'," said Kambosos.
Vasyl Lomachenko and Devin Haney met on May 20th last year in a fight for the undisputed world lightweight title. The American won by unanimous decision.
The fight between George Kambosos and Vasyl Lomachenko is scheduled for May 12th in Perth, Australia. Besides the IBO belt held by George, the vacant IBF title will also be on the line.
