In an interview with Sky Sports, the IBO lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) commented on his upcoming fight against Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs).
"Formally, this guy was the number one fighter in the world, a champion in three divisions, a two-time Olympic gold medalist. We fully understand why he's praised; we, of course, respect him. But we also respect what we have managed to achieve. Styles make fights. If we show our best – it will be something special. I genuinely believe it will be an unforgettable fight.
But on May 12, all this respect goes out the window – I'm going to take his head off. I'm sure he'll come to do the same to me.
Victory will return me to where I want to be, where I'm motivated to be. My journey continues, my opportunities for more significant fights with guys like Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson continue. The biggest fights are what I want," said Kambosos.
The fight between George Kambosos and Vasyl Lomachenko is scheduled for May 12 in Perth, Australia. Besides the IBO belt held by George, the vacant IBF title will also be on the line.
