Trainer Ben Davison, who works with former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, shared his expectations for another of his fighters, Moses Itauma (9-0, 7 KOs).
"Moses' style suits us. He is a high-IQ fighter, passionate about the sport. He is the type of boxer we like to work with. We enjoy working with thinking fighters – conscious, smart, and good at setting traps. That's exactly what he is. Bringing him to this point – helping him develop in these areas – is exciting.
He needs to become a versatile fighter – and he is a versatile boxer – with many tricks up his sleeve. Moses needs to answer everything his opponent wants to do. That's what we are working on – that's what he will eventually become.
Itauma will be capable of doing a bit of everything. He can lead the fight, counterattack, set traps, control the pace, work on the inside, which is crucial. People like Floyd are versatile. Hatton told me that he felt in the ring that Mayweather was better than him, taking control. Even on the inside, he outmatched him. He is an all-around boxer – that's the kind we want and can create.
Itauma hits hard enough to match the size of the biggest heavyweights. He hits more than hard enough to make it difficult for the very big guys to impose their size.
He's only 19, but he's a phenomenal puncher – it will be very interesting to see where he is when he reaches his physical peak," Davison said.
Itauma's last fight took place on the undercard of the Usyk vs. Fury bout, where Moses knocked out Ilya Mezentsev.
