Matchroom Boxing head and British promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Anthony Joshua would be prepared to step in as a replacement for Tyson Fury or Oleksander Usyk if necessary:
'We will be ready. Surprisingly, in that case, he would be boxing four times in 11 months, which is very good for him. It refreshes his career after so many periods of inactivity. At some point, he will need rest, but if he goes through the Ngannou fight without issues and such an opportunity arises, I think he will be ready to face Fury or Usyk,' said Hearn.
Initially, Joshua was scheduled to box after Usyk and Fury, but the fight for undisputed championship was postponed from February 17 to May 18. Joshua's next match is set for March 8th in Saudi Arabia against Francis Ngannou.
