The father and coach of the WBC "interim" super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), Jose Benavidez Sr., has described the French boxer Christian Mbilli (26-0, 22 KOs) in vivid terms.
"Mbilli, that guy is a f***ing monster. He's also an animal. He looked excellent in his last fight. He's another guy we'd like to fight. He's a dangerous fighter. I consider him more dangerous than Morrell. He has more experience, he has climbed the ladder on his own. He has made a name for himself.
David looked impressive in both of his 2023 fights. With these two fights, he proved that he has talent and a good IQ. He's a monster. I'm very happy that we are now at this level. If the fight with Canelo happens – great. If not, we will stay active. We have to keep proving that such an opportunity will come sooner or later," said Benavidez Sr.
In his last fight, which took place in November of the previous year, David Benavidez defeated Demetrius Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs) and defended his title for the second time. Christian Mbilli, in January, defeated Roan Murdoch (27-3, 19 KOs). In both cases, their opponents refused to continue the fight.
