Former British boxer John Ryder, after officially announcing his retirement, intends to become a coach.
"I've had an interview with the British Boxing Board of Control, so I'm just waiting for the letter of permission to proceed. Everything is going according to plan. I'm in the gym every day with Tony Sims, helping him with the guys.
It might not be soon. The sooner, the better for me, but there's no rush. Tony gave me a great career. He was with me all the time, and it's a great honor to work with him and be in the same gym. Eventually, maybe Tony will step back, and I'll take over.
He wants like-minded people to take responsibility, while he teaches and guides us, turns us into good coaches. But he won't be in boxing forever, and at some point, he'll want to step back, so somehow we'll take over the management of the gym," Ryder shared.
Ryder last entered the ring in January 2024, when he lost early to Mexican Jaime Munguia. Subsequently, John announced his retirement from professional boxing, during which he became the interim champion in the super middleweight division (up to 76.2 kg) twice.
