WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's father, John Fury, sizes up the odds of a bout between his son and Anthony Joshua:
"Joshua's got issues of his own. It might turn into a Lennox Lewis-Riddick Bowe scenario, where the fight just doesn't happen. Joshua has to win on December 23, then face Wilder. He's got two giants to topple before he can square off with Tyson. He had his window, didn't he? But Joshua's team fumbled it. Now, he's treading on shaky ground."
"All his bouts are like walking on banana peels. He's not invincible. Vallin could very well outpunch Joshua. I reckon the Tyson fight is off the table. That bird's flown the coop. That ship's already sailed."
Yet, John Fury sees a flicker of hope for the mega fight: "If A.J. keeps racking up victories, overcomes Wallin, defeats Wilder, and Tyson clinches the undisputed title, well, the plot thickens. It'd be the biggest bout in boxing history, broadcasted for all to see. Isn't that the stuff of dreams? Nothing would thrill me more. This fight would be in a league of its own," said Fury Sr.
On the horizon for Anthony Joshua is a clash with Otto Wallin on December 23, potentially setting up a spring brawl with Deontay Wilder. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury is gearing up for a February 17 battle against Oleksandr Usik.
