Jesse Rodriguez Could Face Junto Nakatani

Robert Garcia, the trainer of WBC super flyweight champion Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez (20-0, 13 KOs), has hinted at a potential move up in weight for a showdown with Japan’s Junto Nakatani.

"Bam wants a unification fight, and we’re hoping the champions are available because that’s what he’s after. It could be any of the champions—we don’t know who will be available.

We’re focused on unifying the belts, and then, maybe, our next step will be a flyweight fight against Junto Nakatani. That would be a massive battle, and Junto is an excellent fighter. Bam wants to take on big fights, so if any champions move up in weight, we’ll go up to face them.

Inoue is very powerful, extremely smart in the ring, highly technical with his punches, and very precise. But Bam is also very intelligent and quick. He’s highly accurate and doesn’t take a lot of damage. It would be a fascinating matchup when it happens. Hopefully, in a couple of years, the world will see a big fight," Garcia said.

In November, Rodriguez knocked out Pedro Guevara in the 3rd round. His next opponent has not yet been announced.
