Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Jaron Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs), the reigning IBF and WBA Welterweight champion, is set to move up in weight.
“Ennis is moving up. Unfortunately, after the fight with Stanionis, his team and doctors reviewed his medical tests and concluded that he’s been performing below his physical potential.
What he did to Stanionis while only operating at 50% is incredible.
There’s a strong chance those belts will become vacant. We’ll meet this week to discuss it,” Hearn said.
In his most recent outing, Ennis stopped Eimantas Stanionis. His likely destination is Super Welterweight, where the current titleholders include Sebastian Fundora, Terence Crawford, and Bakhram Murtazaliev.
