Date Set for Opening of Janibek Alimkhanuly’s "B" Sample

Janibek Alimkhanuly / The Ring Magazine

On November 15, during a random doping test conducted under contract with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), a prohibited substance, meldonium, was detected in a sample from the WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly. As a result, his fight against Cuban Erislandy Lara, scheduled for December 6 in San Antonio, USA, did not take place.

The date for the opening of the "B" sample has now been announced. The session will take place on January 8, 2026—its results will determine the boxer's next steps and the subsequent actions of the sanctioning bodies.

It is reported that Janibek’s team will be present during the opening of the "B" sample.

Alimkhanuly has not stepped into the ring since September 2025, when he secured a stoppage victory over Anauel Ngamissengue.
