Mexican boxer Jaime Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs) has criticized Puerto Rican fighter Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) for celebrating his defeat against unified super middleweight champion Saúl Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs).
“I don’t even know what to say. I don’t celebrate losses. I work hard to learn from them. To me, it looks ridiculous to celebrate a defeat. I respect him as a fighter, but this is ridiculous.
Let’s make the fight happen (with Edgar Berlanga). That would be a great bout next year. Let’s do it. The fight with Berlanga isn’t my main goal. There’s Caleb Plant and Mbilli, who is currently with Top Rank.
First, we need to handle business on December 14 against Bruno Suras in Tijuana. If everything goes well, we want to schedule a big fight for next year,” Munguia said in an interview with Fight Hub TV.
In September, Saúl Álvarez defeated Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision to retain his titles. Berlanga was knocked down in the third round.
On December 14 in Tijuana, Mexico, Jaime Munguia will step into the ring against Bruno Suras (25-2, 4 KOs). This will mark the Mexican’s fourth fight in 2024.
