Ukrainian boxer and Ready To Fight ambassador Petro Ivanov (17-0-2, 12 KOs) believes that the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) might retire soon – after a rematch against Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
- It was a very intense fight, with many sharp moments for both Usyk and Fury. There was also a moment where the referee practically saved Fury from a knockout by counting a knockdown.
The fight was very even, and the victory could have gone to Fury. Credit to Tyson – he was very well-prepared and put up a good fight.
This victory is very important for Ukraine as a whole and for the development and popularization of Ukrainian boxing on the global stage. Now, everyone is looking forward to the rematch.
- Were you surprised by anything in the fight? Any unexpected moments?
- Fury's shape was surprising; Tyson was really well-prepared.
Besides, there were several very precise uppercuts. Interestingly, at the beginning of the fight, it seemed Fury was already starting to lose ground, but from the third round, the fight’s picture changed.
- And yet Usyk still managed to turn the fight in his favor. What does that say to you?
Usyk has the heart of a champion. That’s all there is to say. Despite such a tough battle, he found the strength after hard rounds and still took what was his, writing history in the world of boxing.
- What’s next for Usyk? Retirement after the rematch, regardless of the result?
- If Usyk wins the rematch, it will be the end of his career because he will have achieved everything in boxing. Otherwise, there will be a trilogy, Ivanov said.
