Top Rank has announced that the undisputed super bantamweight champion (up to 55,2 kg) Naoya Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs) will defend his titles against Mexican Luis Nery (35-1, 27 KOs) on May 6th at the Tokyo Dome.
Bob Arum, head of Top Rank, has high expectations for the show:
"Naoya Inoue is the best fighter in the world, astonishing me every time he steps into the ring. Luis Nery is a tough opponent, but I'm fully confident that Inoue will do his job in front of more than 50,000 fans at the Tokyo Dome," said Arum.
It's also known that in the undercard, Naoya's brother, Takuma (19-1, 5 KOs), will box against Sho Ishida (34-3, 17 KOs) for the WBA world bantamweight title (up to 53,5 kg).
In 2023, Naoya Inoue fought twice – against Stephen Fulton (21-1, 8 KOs) and Marlon Tapales (37-4, 19 KOs), winning both fights by technical knockout and knockout, respectively. Luis Nery won by knockout against Azat Hovhannisyan (21-4, 17 KOs) in February and by technical knockout against Froilan Saludar (34-8-1, 24 KOs) in July.
