Inoue: "Doehney Knocked Out Boxers I Sparred With"

Japanese undisputed super bantamweight champion (up to 55.3 kg) Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight against Irishman TJ Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs).

"The opportunity to fight in Tokyo Dome was special for my boxing career, and I feel that this performance will surpass the result of the previous fight. Doehney has had some really good fights, and I want to stay focused on him. He knocked out boxers I sparred with, and he can deliver results in his fights," said Inoue.

The founder and head of the promotional company Top Rank, Bob Arum, who represents the Japanese undisputed champion, also shared his expectations for the upcoming show.

"Naoya Inoue is a generational talent, and whenever he fights, the boxing world stops to watch the work of a master. TJ Doheny is a veteran who cannot be overlooked, as he has won many times when he was the underdog in fights in Japan," Arum said to Top Rank.

The Inoue-Doheny fight will take place on September 3rd in Tokyo, Japan. We discussed the undercard of the tournament here.

Naoya Inoue last fought in May against Luis Nery (35-2, 27 KOs) and won by technical knockout in the 6th round. TJ Doheny, on the same card, secured an early victory against Brillo Bayogos (7-1-16, 2 KOs) by TKO in the 4th round.
