On May 6th in Japan at the Tokyo Dome arena, a fight will take place between the undisputed super flyweight (up to 55,2 kg) champion Naoya Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs) and the Mexican contender Luis Nery (35-1, 27 KOs).
The "diamond" WBC belt will be at stake in this fight. As reported by the World Boxing Council, Naoya Inoue personally requested the right to fight for such a belt during a meeting with Mauricio Sulaiman.
The "diamond" belt is different from the regular one in appearance, finish, and the status of the boxers who have received it – Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Leo Santa Cruz, Claressa Shields, and Ana Maria Torres. It does not add any additional status or ranking opportunities.
The Inoue vs. Nery fight will take place at the Tokyo Dome, where the last boxing match was held in 1990 when James "Buster" Douglas defeated Mike Tyson by knockout.
