Ike Ibeabuchi: “A Long Break Means Nothing”

Nigerian Heavyweight Ike Ibeabuchi has shared his expectations ahead of his first fight in 26 years, where he will face compatriot Idris Afini.

I’m excited to show my home country what I’m made of. A long break means nothing. I’ve been training and I’m ready to prove it on August 23,” said Ibeabuchi.

The 12-round bout between 52-year-old Ike Ibeabuchi (20-0, 15 KOs) and 40-year-old Idris Afini (18-8-2, 15 KOs) will take place on August 23 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Back in 1999, Ibeabuchi was convicted of assault with intent to commit a crime and attempted sexual assault. He was released in 2015, returned to prison in 2016, and finally regained his freedom in 2020.
