The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has announced the timeline for ordering Daniel Dubois to make a mandatory defense of his heavyweight title.
“We’ve ordered Frank Sánchez and Filip Hrgović to begin negotiations for the No.1 contender spot. We plan to inform Dubois and Chisora about the start of negotiations for the mandatory title defense on April 22.
There’s not enough time to stage an eliminator bout, as Dubois is required to make his mandatory defense by June 21.
If Daniel chooses to pursue a unification bout, that will take priority over the mandatory defense,” the statement reads.
Notably, 41-year-old Dereck Chisora scored a victory over Otto Wallin earlier this February.
