"I have what Tyson didn't." Gervonta talks boxing styles

In a recent interview, WBA "Regular" lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) explained why he sees himself as a more complete boxer than Mike Tyson.

"Do you feel like a 'mini-Mike Tyson'?"

"No."

"What would you call your style?"

"I consider myself a puncher-boxer."

"And Tyson?"

"He was a brawler. Mike Tyson had power and skill, but I have a full arsenal. I believe I have what Tyson didn't," said Gervonta in an interview with Open Thoughts.

Davis had his latest fight in the spring of 2023, knocking out Ryan Garcia in the seventh round. Following that, he spent 44 days in prison due to a violation of his house arrest conditions and then announced that his next bout would be in early 2024. Isaac Cruz has been touted as a possible opponent.

Recently, Bernard Hopkins placed Gervonta at the top of his personal pound-for-pound ranking.
