On the night of April 7 in Las Vegas, USA, a bout took place between American Richardson Hitchins (18-0, 7 KOs) and Argentine Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) in a Matchroom Boxing event.
After 12 rounds, the judges scored the fight 115-113 twice and 117-111 in favor of Hitchins. The match turned out to be extremely competitive, leading to widespread fan dissatisfaction with the outcome.
Hitchins now officially becomes the contender for the IBF title in the super lightweight division (up to 63.5 kg). The title is currently held by Puerto Rican Subriel Matias (20-1, 20 KOs), who will face Liam Paro on June 15.
