Former world champion Carl Froch has expressed that Conor Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) should not currently seek a fight against Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) and explained why.
"I would be interested in a Benn vs. Gervonta fight. Davis is a road warrior from Baltimore, half of his friends are either dead or in jail. He's a tough guy, a real tough dude, but he's in a lower weight class than Conor. I don’t think Benn needs this fight. I just think Conor needs to wait a bit.
I know he's desperate to fight and wants to become a world champion, but you can’t just jump into the ring with these guys. You need a stepping stone. Benn has done what he's done, but he had nearly a two-year break, and now he’s calling out road warriors.
He can't just jump into the ring with these guys. Obviously, he just needs to rebuild himself and get his license back first," Froch said for Instant Casino.
According to promoter Eddie Hearn, he has already sent Gervonta an offer to fight Benn.
