Herrera Defeats Nunez to Become WBC Interim Champion

On January 10, in Oberhausen, Germany, a bout for the WBC interim lightweight title took place between 23-year-old Cuban Jadier Herrera (18-0, 16 KOs) and 32-year-old Panamanian Ricardo Nunez (26-8, 22 KOs).

The fight ended with a stoppage victory for Herrera in the 8th round after the referee halted the contest. Herrera had to overcome early adversity, having been knocked down in the first round.

The match was held on the undercard of the Agit Kabayel vs. Damian Knyba fight. The full WBC lightweight title is currently held by Shakur Stevenson, who is set to make his super welterweight debut on January 31 in a high-profile matchup against Teofimo Lopez.
