Hearn on Joshua vs Wilder: “I Don’t Think Anyone Fears Deontay Anymore”

Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, shared his thoughts on a potential clash between his fighter, Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), and American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs).

“It’s a fight I wouldn’t rule out, but right now, very few give Wilder a real chance against AJ. Still, I hope he gets back to looking like himself again.

We’re once again talking about fighters who’ve lost their way — this is a prime example.

It’s strange how someone can strike so much fear, and then suddenly no one’s afraid of them.

I don’t think anyone’s scared to step in with Deontay Wilder anymore.

There was a time when everyone said, ‘Oh my God, he’s the hardest puncher in boxing history!’ And now everyone wants to fight him.

If he gets back on track, people will start talking about this fight again.”

Now 39 years old, Wilder has lost four of his last five fights. His next bout is scheduled for June 27 against Tyrell Herndon.

Joshua’s last appearance was in September, when he was knocked out in the fifth round by IBF champion Daniel Dubois.
