Hearn Responds, Will Fury's Lower Weight Help

Promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn commented on the physical shape of WBC heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) ahead of his bout against WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).

«Will Fury's lower weight be an advantage in the fight with Usyk? It depends on how Tyson wants to fight. If he wants to be more agile – then yes, I think he’ll move better because he’ll be lighter. But sometimes fighters come in lighter and don’t show consistency compared to previous fights, which isn’t good. But being out of shape is also bad.

People say he’s slim, but he’s still a big heavyweight because he weighs around 120 kg. I think two camps will help him. Naturally, he’s not very physically gifted – I feel his pain. But you’ll never see him with just 2 weeks of camp. Long preparation will help him, but it all depends on the performance and the game plan. I’ve written Tyson off so many times, and he always tries to prove me wrong. I hope he wins, I believe in it. I’m looking forward to this with great excitement,» said Hearn.

The fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will take place on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On the line will be the first undisputed heavyweight champion title since 1999.
