Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn responded to WBA super welterweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), who claimed that Hearn showed disrespect when he joked with Saul "Canelo" Álvarez about Crawford using his name to stir up hype ahead of his latest fight.
"He's a little emotionally vulnerable, right? I was really joking with Canelo, but there’s always some truth in a joke. We’re not 'using' Canelo’s name, but it was mentioned a lot last week.
All of you guys want to talk about a Crawford-Canelo fight, so why wouldn’t we talk about it?” said Hearn.
Canelo’s next fight is scheduled for September 14, when he will face Edgar Berlanga. Crawford, meanwhile, is set to begin negotiations with Sebastian Fundora, who has been ordered to defend his WBO title against him.
