In an interview with the YouTube channel Fight Hub TV, promoter Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on a fight between the undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) and the WBC "interim" champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).
"When I talked to Saul about Benavidez, the fact that people think he won't fight him actually makes him laugh. You know, he's a man, he's here for everyone. He will fight Benavidez, and we will make that fight against Benavidez. But he wants action, he wants a clear plan.
The fight with Benavidez won't happen in May because PBC doesn't want to work with anyone. And now they've messed up. Right? Because if I get Benavidez, what will PBC do – they'll walk away. We're only making fights with PBC. No, we won't give Benavidez a chance. And this is what people don't understand. They don't want to let their guys go to another platform to give them a chance to achieve greatness. It all has to happen only with them," said Hearn.
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez intends to return to the ring on May 4th in Las Vegas, but the name of his future opponent still remains a mystery.
