Eddie Hearn, the promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing, has expressed his desire to organize a bout between the newly crowned WBA super featherweight champion (up to 57.1 kg) Raymond Ford (15-0-1, 8 KOs) and Nick Ball (19-0, 11 KOs), should Nick defeat Ray Vargas (36-1, 22 KOs) on March 8th and claim the WBC belt.
This fight would serve as a unification match for the WBA and WBC world super featherweight titles at the Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5 show.
On the night of March 3rd, Ford clinched the vacant WBA super featherweight title by defeating Otabek Kholmatov (12-1, 11 KOs), securing victory just 7 seconds before the final bell.
Ford shared his thoughts on the fight: "I knew I needed a knockout. The end of the fight was too close for comfort. I just had to turn on the aggression that my coaches have been talking about. I always knew it was in me. I come from a tough background. There's nothing that can stop me. Nothing.
I started off slow. I felt like I didn't have the energy or legs to be the boxer I could be. This was due to the tough weight cut. So, this might be my last fight at super featherweight. I'll move up to lightweight, where I'll challenge the champions," said Ford.
