In an interview for ProBox TV, promoter Eddie Hearn drew parallels between the rematch of former undisputed junior welterweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) and Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs), and other notable British boxing rivalries.
"It's like the Scott Quigg vs. Carl Frampton fight. It's similar to David Haye vs. Tony Bellew, it's like Carl Froch vs. George Groves. This is what we need, we missed this. I've really missed this! I'm convinced that on April 27th, we will have a truly special fight.
This is necessary for British boxing. So, forget about the profit from this show – understand what we need to deliver. If we don't bring these significant moments to British boxing and just keep hosting big international fights, British boxing won't be the same.
Fights are very expensive now, and this fight had to be on pay-per-view. But DAZN believes that considering all the upcoming big fights with Joshua—Ngannou, with Fury—Usyk, we should offer such fights to the viewers for free. This is what we wanted to do when we went to DAZN.
Sky Sports came in with a big offer to broadcast the fight on pay-per-view; other broadcasters too, and then I went to DAZN and said, 'Listen, all these broadcasters want to show the fight on pay-per-view, either you do the same, or you pay a bunch of money and give users the chance to watch the show for free.' And thank God, they will provide it to subscribers for free. It will be part of your subscription, which is very important, and it's really what we want in terms of accessibility for fans," said Hearn.
In their first fight in February 2022, Josh Taylor defeated Jack Catterall by majority decision, having been knocked down twice and suffering a cut. The rematch is scheduled for April 27 in Leeds, United Kingdom.
