Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, has weighed in on a potential showdown between former British Heavyweight Champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
According to Hearn, the fight is only a matter of time — fan demand for it far outweighs any interest in another matchup involving Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed champion.
“He’s just like AJ. The only man to have beaten Tyson Fury is Oleksandr Usyk — and he did it twice, cleanly and convincingly. Both were good, competitive fights.
It’s the same with AJ — the first fight was more one-sided, the second much closer. Anthony would love to face Usyk again, but he knows he can’t demand it right now — he’s coming off a loss and has already been beaten by him twice.
Tyson is also coming off two losses. A trilogy when you’re down 0–2 doesn’t happen often. No one wants to see Fury–Usyk again. No one wants to see Joshua–Usyk again — we’ve seen that twice, with the same result both times. The only fight people care about is AJ vs. Fury.
I don’t understand why delay the inevitable. Just say: of course, let’s make the fight happen. I think it should happen — why drag out what’s bound to happen anyway?” said Hearn.
