In an interview with Boxing Social, promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn expressed his opinion on British middleweight (up to 72,5 kg) boxer Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs) wanting to fight the undisputed super middleweight (uo to 76,2 kg) champion Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).
"Canelo wants a lot of money. Such an amount can't be generated in a fight with Eubank. Who is Chris?
He beat welterweight Liam Smith, who had previously knocked him out. He's afraid of Benn, also a welterweight. And he wants to move up to super middleweight to fight Canelo? No chance," said Hearn.
In 2023, Chris Eubank Jr. fought two bouts against Liam Smith (33-4-1, 20 KOs). The fighters exchanged technical knockouts: in January, Liam won in the 4th round, and during the rematch in September, Chris celebrated victory in the 10th round.
Saul Alvarez plans to return to the ring on May 4th in Las Vegas, but the name of his future opponent remains a mystery.
