The head of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, commented on the potential bout between the Mexican undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) and WBA mandatory challenger Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs).
"I think there's a good chance. Berlanga is a mandatory challenger, but Canelo has several of those. I think, of all the fights, besides Crawford and Benavidez, Berlanga is the most appealing opponent for Canelo. Mexico vs. Puerto Rico. Edgar will give it his all. He's a young and fresh puncher.
I think it's an exciting fight. We're ready for it, and we'll see what happens. I have no objection. Matchroom show, PBC, or Riyadh Season. Wherever it is, Edgar is our fighter. We have a contract with him, and I want him to get the opportunity. Canelo is my friend. It's a great fight," said Hearn.
Edgar Berlanga last appeared in the ring in February against Pedreig McCrory (18-1, 9 KOs) and won by knockout in the 6th round. Canelo Alvarez defeated Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs) by unanimous decision in May.
