Hearn on Madrimov and Bohachuk: "Everyone’s Jumping to Conspiracy Theories"

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn has addressed the cancellation of the fight between Serhii Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) and Israil Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) while explaining why Ishmael Davis (13-1, 6 KOs) was chosen as the replacement for the Uzbek boxer.

“Obviously, everyone’s jumping to conspiracy theories right now. Israil Madrimov was 100% ready to fight Bohachuk, and then 100% ready for Vergil Ortiz, assuming he won and came out in good shape. Madrimov has acute bronchitis. He ended up in the hospital. He was unwell. He was diagnosed. He wanted to fight Bohachuk.

I reached out to His Excellency. He asked, ‘Who’s ready?’ Turki loves Ishmael Davis because he agreed to fight Josh Kelly on one week’s notice. He said, ‘Give me three or four options.’ I gave him three or four options, and he said, ‘Let’s go with Ishmael Davis.’

This time, Davis has two weeks to prepare for the fight. Obviously, Bohachuk is a completely different type of fighter than Josh, but we’re ready. Ishmael Davis has made a fortune in just two months, and I’m very happy for him,” Hearn told iFL TV.

The fight between Serhii Bohachuk and Ishmael Davis will take place on December 21 as part of the undercard for the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
