British promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn described the clash between Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) and David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) as the most astonishing fight he has ever witnessed.
"This is the most astonishing fight I've ever seen. Why this fight? Gvozdyk is a very good boxer, but what is Benavidez doing? As soon as David moves up to light heavyweight, he might not be able to go back," said Hearn.
Gvozdyk and Benavidez will be boxing for the WBC interim light heavyweight title (up to 175 lbs). For Gvozdyk, this will be his fourth fight after returning to boxing. In 2019, following his only career loss, he took a break, returning in 2023. For Benavidez, this fight marks his debut at light heavyweight.
The likely date for the confrontation is June 15.
