Matchroom Boxing's head, Eddie Hearn, has discussed the potential bout between IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis and junior middleweight boxer Vergil Ortiz.
"DAZN has invested heavily in Ennis, with plans for a major unification fight in the spring. If we're talking about a fight with Vergil, that's February 22 in Saudi Arabia. If this option is acceptable to DAZN, then we're on board. Jaron accepts this fight.
But we're also in talks with other champions in our weight class because Ennis is here for the long haul; he wants to unify the division. The reason we took the fight with Chukhadzhian was to keep the IBF belt," Hearn stated.
In their previous bouts, both Ortiz and Ennis faced Ukrainian opponents. Vergil defeated Serhii Bohachuk, while Jaron overcame Karen Chukhadzhian.
