Haney Reveals Shakur's Opponent

American Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), the WBC champion at super lightweight (up to 140 lbs), discussing the proposal of WBC lightweight champion (up to 135 lbs) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) to replace his next opponent Ryan Garcia, revealed that he knows who Shakur will be fighting. According to Devin, it's his former opponent, Russian Zaur Abdullaev (19-1, 11 KOs).

"Shakur talks a lot but doesn't fight anyone. We haven't seen him with someone in the ring. He's been naming various people, including me. Now we're seeing information that he'll be fighting in June. And he already has an opponent - Zaur Abdullaev, whom I've already beaten. So Shakur is moving in the wrong direction. All these guys are calling my name, but it's not serious. If Stevenson is so serious, then after that fight with De Los Santos, he should have gone for a rematch to prove all the haters wrong. Shakur, go and fight De Los Santos again. He names everyone except the guy against whom he had a bad fight. He himself said he had a bad performance, so he should have a rematch. Shakur is still that guy I'm interested in fighting. Because I want to prove myself. But at the same time, I wish other boxers would also get in the ring against each other. They also need to prove themselves. I can't be the only one fighting while they idle around and wait for a fight with me. Or just call out my name, show disrespect, but never get in the ring," Haney told Fight Hype.

In September 2019, Haney defeated Abdullaev by TKO. Devin's next fight is on April 20 against Ryan Garcia. Shakur has no official fight scheduled yet. It should be noted that WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman previously stated that Russians would not fight for their organization's titles as long as the war, which was started by Russia, continues in Ukraine.
