Haney Names Possible Reason for Defeat

For the first time since his defeat by Ryan Garcia, WBC super lightweight champion (up to 63,5 kg) Devin Haney provided an extensive comment about the first loss of his professional career.

"First of all, I want to say that Allah is the perfect planner, and I trust His plan, no matter what. I faced a setback, but this is boxing, and if anyone knows me, they know I'm a true fighter, and I've always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world.

Ryan, despite the circumstances, won that night, and that's okay. I feel like the weight played a role, but only Allah knows. I would like to revisit this and give the fans a fair fight at the agreed weight.

Right now, I'm enjoying time with my family and friends, and making up the days of Ramadan. Thank you to all my fans and everyone involved in organizing this event. After I complete the days of Ramadan, I'll let you guys know what's next.

I will come back better than ever," wrote Haney.

Devin lost to Garcia by a decision but remained champion. Ryan was over the weight limit for the super lightweight by more than 1.5 kilograms and was ineligible to fight for the belt.
