Former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has accused Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs), the current WBO super lightweight titleholder, of backing out of their proposed fight.
“I was really looking forward to making this fight with Teo. We’ve been working on it for a while. I thought this was the perfect time to make it happen. I did my part. We waited several days for Teo to sign his side of the contract, and then he comes out and says this isn’t the fight he wants.
I’m still ready to make the biggest and best fights. I’m looking forward to working with His Excellency, Riyadh Season, and The Ring to secure the best possible opponent. Teo is a damn coward. No promoter should work with him — he just wastes everybody’s time,” Haney said.
According to preliminary information, the bout was initially targeted for August 16 in Saudi Arabia.
