Queensberry Promotions chief Frank Warren has officially confirmed that Hamzah Sheeraz is moving up to a new weight division.
"The middleweight limit was killing him, and that was part of the problem. Just look at his height—it’s obvious. I don’t know how he even made the weight; he’s just getting bigger and bigger. Now he’s moving up.
I think the weight was an issue for him, and then there was his hand injury. He just couldn’t handle it all. He was very lucky to get a draw, but now we move forward. Given how much he struggled with weight and still managed to fight in those later rounds—I’ll never understand it," Warren stated.
In his previous bout, Sheeraz fought to a draw against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames.
Sheeraz previously competed in the 72.6 kg (160 lbs) middleweight division. His next move will be to super middleweight (76.2 kg / 168 lbs), where the dominant champion is Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez.
