In an interview with vRINGe, former light heavyweight world champion (up to 79.4 kg) Alexander Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) opened up about his collaboration with coach Marco Contreras.
"Marco is a democratic coach. A phlegmatic democrat. And I find it very comfortable working with him. He takes into account my needs, respects my ego, and values my experience.
It’s more comfortable working with a coach like Marco, who makes his adjustments and corrections. But if I insist on my own vision... That is, in my camp, the main person is me. I'm satisfied with this arrangement. It's how I prefer it.
Of course, when I was working with Teddy, he was the one in charge of the camp. I want to clarify, I'm not saying that was bad. On the contrary, I believe I gained a lot from Teddy, both in experience and boxing skills. But at some point, I decided that I now want to run my camps the way I'm doing it currently. Camps where I make the decisions. Where I'm the main person," Gvozdyk explained.
This summer, Alexander Gvozdyk will face American David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) for the title of "interim" WBC champion.
