Gvozdyk to Fight Benavidez!

Nikolai Kovalchuk, President of WBC Ukraine, surprised with an announcement regarding the next opponent for Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) - it's set to be the unbeaten Mexican fighter.

"Yesterday, the WBC rankings were updated. Gvozdyk is now ranked second. And today, there's great news. He will fight for the WBC interim champion title against David Benavidez. It will be a pay-per-view bout. A truly epic fight that the whole world will watch. Against the Benavidez who is undefeated, with 28 wins. And if Oleksandr wins, he automatically becomes the mandatory challenger for all the championship belts.

Gvozdyk is very pleased. He's preparing seriously. God willing, all this will happen. And if everything goes well, the winner of Beterbiev-Bivol will become Oleksandr's opponent," said Kovalchuk.

Gvozdyk last entered the ring in September 2023, knocking out Isaac Rodriguez. Benavidez last year won by stoppage against Demetrius Andrade.
