Gvozdyk: "Is Canelo Using Me? Possibly"

In an interview with Sport Express, the former light heavyweight (up to 79.4 kg) world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) responded to whether the team of the absolute champion Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) is using Oleksandr in the fight against the "interim" WBC super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).

- Robert Garcia, whom you personally know, said in one of his interviews that you are being used as bait in the fight with Benavidez. That is, the team of Canelo Alvarez, with whom you collaborate, wants to observe their potential future opponent in this confrontation.

- It's entirely possible that there's some truth to those words. No one – neither my promoter nor Canelo – has discussed this with me. I exclusively view this fight as my personal opportunity to become world champion again and a contender. Whatever others plan does not really concern me. My task is quite simple – to enter the ring and win this fight. That's it.

If my manager Eddy Reynoso wants to use me to check Benavidez before his potential fight against Canelo, which David so desires and cannot seem to get, then – by all means.

The most important thing for me is that no one is setting any personal tasks for me from their side. Like, "you fight him this way or that way."

Previously, insider Fernando Sabatini reported that the fight between WBA lightweight (up to 61.2 kg) champion Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) and Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) might take place on the undercard of Oleksandr Gvozdyk's fight against David Benavidez.

The show may take place on June 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.
