In an interview with vRINGe, former light heavyweight world champion (up to 79,4 kg) Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) discussed his relationship with the undisputed super middleweight world champion (up to 76,2 kg) Canelo Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) when the Ukrainian helped prepare the Mexican for his fight against Dmitry Bivol (22-0, 11 KOs).
"Is it true that he keeps people at a distance? Look... Perhaps it is. But on the other hand, why should he let anyone get closer? He is a very famous person. A very wealthy person. I'm sure there are a lot of people who crave closer communication or even friendship with him. But there's only one of him. He can't be there for everyone.
Canelo was very respectful towards me when I was invited to help with the preparation for Bivol. They created all the conditions so that I was comfortable. Personally, my opinion is that he's a very reasonable and normal person. Now, we always greet each other when we meet. And I feel that he treats me very well," said Gvozdyk.
Oleksandr Gvozdyk will fight American David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) for the title of "interim" WBC light heavyweight champion this summer.
Preliminary information suggests Canelo's next fight will be against compatriot Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) on May 4th in Las Vegas.
