Gvozdyk on Benavidez: “Bivol Didn’t Vacate That Title for Nothing”

Former world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KOs) has shared his thoughts on his former opponent, David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs), the current WBC light heavyweight champion.

According to Gvozdyk, Benavidez is going to be a nightmare for any fighter — even at higher weight classes.

“He’s going to be a big problem for anyone — including the champions, including Bivol and Beterbiev. I believe Bivol didn’t give up that title without a reason.

Even if he moves up to cruiserweight, he’ll still be dangerous. I don’t know a single fighter for whom a match against David Benavidez would be easy, regardless of division,” Gvozdyk said.

Benavidez and Gvozdyk fought in June 2024 for the interim WBC light heavyweight title. The bout went the distance, with Benavidez winning by unanimous decision.
