Gvozdyk Announces Exact Return Date

Ukrainian light heavyweight boxer (up to 79.4 kg) Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KOs) revealed that he will return to the ring in September on the undercard of the fight between former undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) and Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs).

Is there an approximate date for your return?

The Canelo undercard, it's confirmed. So, I’m coming back.

There was news that you're back in the IBF rankings at the seventh position, and first in the WBC. Any updates on which direction you’ll be heading? Any interest in trying WBA where Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing has many good fighters?

Yes, but they don't want to fight; they prefer to fight each other or other Brits. I'm open to any challenges. I’ll reveal a bit – I have a very interesting fight lined up, maybe at the end of this year or early next year, with a top opponent. Considering I’m first in the WBC, it might be for that title again. I don't want to get too ahead of myself; right now, I need to come back and close out September.

I expect to do that without any problems, and then there are some very interesting options for December or maybe January-February. I already have a name, but it’s still being worked on. It’s another big megafight for me.

So, it won't be on the Canelo card but in December-January?

This is boxing; anything can happen. But the idea is to fight on the Canelo card in September against a first-tier opponent to get back, feel everything I need for the return. Then in December or January, there will be another big fight.

The fight between Saul Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga will take place on September 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA. The WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles held by Canelo will be on the line.

37-year-old Oleksandr Gvozdyk last fought on June 15 against David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) and lost by unanimous decision.
