Former world middleweight champion (up to 160 lbs) Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) has been officially elected as the president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.
"It's a great honor for me to represent our country in this new position. When I was offered to lead the NOC of Kazakhstan, I said that I would only put forward my candidacy if it would allow me to contribute to the development of Kazakhstani sports.
As you know, I am not a politician or a bureaucrat. I have learned to prove my actions not with words, but with deeds. I believe that one of the most important tasks we face is the regulation of international relations.
In this regard, I want to say that I have my own view, years of international experience, and a team. And most importantly, my longstanding desire is to implement everything in my home country," Golovkin said.
Gennady is 41 years old. His last fight took place in September 2022, when he lost to Saul Alvarez by decision in the final fight of their trilogy. Before that, Golovkin had a streak of four victories: three by knockout and one by decision.
After the loss to Alvarez, the Kazakh boxer did not announce the end of his career or future plans.
