Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has shared his thoughts on a potential matchup between Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) and Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs).
"Tank is fully focused on Frank Martin. I don’t set schedules for these things. Believe me, Shakur will get that work. He’s been asking for this fight. He’s going to get it, but it’s not something he’s thinking about right now. But I can’t wait for it to happen," said Ellerbe.
Previously, Stevenson called out Gervonta for a fight: "How many times is he going to say he’s going to fight an elite fighter and then not box them? Are you really going to fight me or just keep saying you will? Shut up and fight me. All you have to do is send the offer."
Tank responded, "Shakur talks too much. I’ll stop him," to which Stevenson replied, "Finally, he’s speaking my language. Let’s get this shit done."
The 29-year-old Gervonta holds the WBA lightweight title (up to 61.2 kg), while the 26-year-old Shakur is the WBC champion in the same division.
In his last three fights, Davis has a 100% knockout rate:
- 6th round TKO – Rolando Romero
- 9th round TKO – Hector Luis Garcia
- 7th round KO – Ryan Garcia
Stevenson, in his last three fights, has one knockout win and two decision victories:
- Unanimous decision – Robson Conceição
- 6th round TKO – Shuichiro Yoshino
- Unanimous decision – Edwin De Los Santos
Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA title against Frank Martin on June 15, while Shakur Stevenson will make his first WBC title defense against Artem Harutyunyan on July 6.
