George Kambosos Announces Move to a New Weight Class

Former lightweight world champion George Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) has commented on signing with Matchroom Boxing and announced his transition to the super lightweight division.

"I'm thrilled to join Matchroom Boxing and sign a three-way agreement with my longtime promoter DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions.

I’ve achieved great success and made history fighting on Matchroom shows, winning a title eliminator in the UK against Lee Selby, and defeating Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden to become the undisputed lightweight world champion.

I officially announce my move to the super lightweight division. Signing with Matchroom gives me the opportunity to build on my success and leave a lasting legacy in boxing," Kambosos stated.

Matchroom's head Eddie Hearn also welcomed the Australian to the team.

"George’s victory over Teofimo completely changed the game and proved he’s a man for the big challenges. He has shown himself to be a massive star in Australia and a key driver of the sport’s growth there.

The super lightweight division is stacked with talent, and George's presence only raises the stakes. A potential fight with Liam Paro is highly enticing—if Liam secures a win on December 7," Hearn said.

Kambosos last fought in May, losing to Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) via an 11th-round technical knockout.
