George Kambosos on Potential Rematch with Teofimo Lopez

Former undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) has addressed the possibility of a rematch with current WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs).

"A rematch is always possible. It can definitely happen. On my end, there’s never been any obstacle—as long as everything’s fair.

I beat Teofimo in his own backyard, so if he came to Australia, that would be fair. Or we could do it on neutral ground—Saudi Arabia, or somewhere else.

But he’s got business to handle. There are a lot of hurdles before we can even talk about that fight. My goal right now is to become a world champion again.

If that means fighting Hitchins, I’d gladly beat up another guy from New York. Then we’ll see what’s next.

I have to stay focused on each step, and so does he. Barboza is no joke—a tough opponent. I like Barboza. We talk. Back in January or February, he even reached out about a possible big fight.

There’s Barboza. There’s Hitchins, who called me out. There are a lot of big names. People might not want to admit it, but Kambosos is still one of the biggest names in boxing.

We’ve achieved a lot, and now we just move forward—one step at a time," said Kambosos.

In November 2021, Kambosos shocked the world by defeating Lopez via split decision to become the undisputed lightweight champion. Both fighters were knocked down—Lopez in the 1st round, Kambosos in the 10th.

On March 22, Kambosos moved up to super lightweight and defeated Jake Wyllie by unanimous decision.

Teofimo Lopez is scheduled to return on May 2, when he faces Arnold Barboza.
