British boxing analyst Gareth A. Davies has shared new insight into the possible return of former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), who hasn’t fought since losing back-to-back decisions to Oleksandr Usyk in May and December 2024.
“It looks like Tyson Fury is preparing for a comeback. He’s clearly thinking about it and has already resumed training. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an official announcement in the coming weeks,” said Davies.
Davies revealed he’d spoken to sources close to Fury, including Frank Warren, who recently discussed his direct messages with Tyson at a Saturday show.
“Nobody in Fury’s camp is pressuring him to return. But the near-daily Instagram posts, the statements from John Fury, who recently said in Hungary that he, not Sugar Hill Steward, should be in Tyson’s corner — it all suggests serious behind-the-scenes discussions about a comeback.”
On a third fight with Usyk, Davies added:
“Fury is trying to process two losses to Oleksandr Usyk and accept that a third fight likely won’t happen, even if he wants it.
I can guarantee there were real discussions about a possible trilogy — but this is not the right time. That came straight from Tyson’s team.
At the same time, Usyk’s camp remains in contact with Fury’s people. The heavyweight division is extremely intertwined right now, and Saudi Arabia plays a major role in all of this.”
Davies believes the clock is ticking:
“I’m certain Tyson knows he needs to make the Joshua fight happen this year. Just a month ago, I thought they had until mid-next summer. But if they wait too long, UK fans might start to lose interest.”
Following his second loss to Usyk in December 2024, Fury announced his retirement, but recent signals suggest his time away from the ring may soon be over.
